Mission, Hopes and a Goal.

What I am trying to do is start a blog that talks about the trials and tribulations of life working the plaintiff's side of civil court (a/k/a the LIGHT side of the force).

I see a lot of blogs that talk about billable hours.  That didn't relate to me, and I'm sure that there are others like me, if they could ever get off the phone with that last client, or tear themselves away from the medicinal liquor (it IS medicinal, DAMMIT) to get to surf the net.

I've been doing this for over 8 years.  I feel EVERY.  ONE.  OF.  THEM.  It's taken me this long to be able to look for other blogs to talk about work when I'm not at work *shudder*.

I hope to have advice, tips, tricks, and maybe a laugh or two.  People say I have the funniest stories.  I say you have to suffer to be a comedian, but tomato TOMAHTO, right?

I work in a small firm.  Ironically republican, and generally speaking, republicans favor tort reform, but we do NOT favor tort reform (obviously) unless it has to do with raspberries or something.

Unlike many of my peers, I like my boss.  I can sleep at night.  I don't drink.  Seriously.  I don't drink.  In general, I LOVE my job.  It suits me right down to the ground.  It's what I've always wanted to do, and I'm GOOD at it.  It's weird how all the pieces of my life have gotten me here.  Being a paralegal AIN'T all bad.  It's not a job that's for everyone though.  See, you have to want to be a servant, first.

One of my favorite movies is Gosford Park.  At the end, Helen Mirren explains that she is such a great servant because she has learned to ANTICIPATE.  She knows when her charges will be hungry before they do, and she has food ready.  When Mary asks her about her life, she chides her and asks if she has been listening.  She is a servant.  She has no life.  That's really the trick to being GOOD at this.  Another homework movie is Swimming with the Sharks, but you can forget the end.  You're not breaking into his house and torturing him.  You're just going to service his needs.  (PHRASING!)

What's life like in a personal injury firm?  That's what I'm going to share with you as we journey together.
